Brazos on the fly is a North Texas fly fishing guide service. My primary water is the Brazos river below Possum Kingdom Lake but I am planning to expand my trips to other water in the area and have another exciting opportunity planned for 2021!
Currently, I offer wading trips and paddle trips on the Brazos on either a half-day or full-day basis. The Brazos river in this area is rich with history, scenery, and fish! Recommended times for booking bass trips are during the spring, summer, and fall months and during December-March stocked rainbow trout are available as Texas Parks and Wildlife stocks them.
Brazos on the Fly is owned and operated by me, Will Stewart. I live in Olney and have been fly fishing for around 25 years now. Fishing has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Some of my earliest memories are of my Papa taking me catfishing at our stock pond and at least once hooking a big one on my Snoopy fishing pole and yelling out “Help me, Papa!, Help me!”. Another thing I remember about those trips is my dad sneaking around to the far bank of the pond with his long skinny fly rod and catching bluegill and bass and wondering how in the heck he did that. For several years I held fly fishing in some mystical reverence as something only my dad could figure out. When Dad finally taught my sister and me, I was 7 years old and we were on vacation in Yellowstone National Park. From that point forward I was enamored with fly fishing and now 25 years later, I rarely travel anywhere without a rod and reel stashed somewhere in the vehicle.
Now, my goal now is to get you hooked on fly fishing as well. For those that have never tried it we’ll spend some time getting familiar with casting and the necessary equipment and then focus on getting you your first fish on the fly. If you already are a fly angler then we can head out on the water and get started right away! There are plenty of tough days on the water but we will work together as a team to make the right moments count. When it all comes together, even if it’s on just one fish the reward makes it all worth it.
